INDIA’S FIRST AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY & UNAccc JOIN HANDS TO BUILD A “SUSTAINABLE UTTARAKHAND MODEL STATE”
Govind Ballabh Pant University and UNAccc Sign Landmark MoU for Climate Action, Sustainable Development, Green Economy and Rural Transformation

In a landmark development that could redefine the future of sustainable development in India, Dr. Shivendra Kumar Kashyap, Vice Chancellor, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, and Dr. Rajat Sharma, Founder President, Unity of Nations Action for Climate Change Council (UNAccc), Geneva–India, have officially signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and implement the “Sustainable Uttarakhand Model State Mission.”

The collaboration aims to create a globally replicable development framework integrating Climate Action, Sustainable Agriculture, Environmental Conservation, Rural Prosperity, Cooperative Development, Green Innovation, Youth Empowerment, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Founded on 17 November 1960 and inaugurated by India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology is India’s first agricultural university and one of the world’s largest contiguous university campuses, spread across more than 12,600 acres. The University is widely recognized for its historic contribution to India’s Green Revolution and agricultural transformation.
Under this strategic partnership, GBPUAT’s world-class academic expertise, scientific research capabilities, agricultural innovation ecosystem, and community outreach programs will be integrated with UNAccc’s global climate action network, sustainable development initiatives, and international collaborations across multiple countries.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders from both institutions emphasized that this partnership represents a major step toward creating practical and scalable solutions for climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, environmental conservation, and inclusive economic development.
The initiative is expected to engage researchers, policymakers, bureaucrats, climate experts, social leaders, cooperatives, youth organizations, and community stakeholders to build a future-ready Uttarakhand aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and India’s long-term sustainability vision.
